Kay had her whole life planned out. She was gonna work in the archives, working on restoring old documents and files and recording new history. She was going to interview soldiers and maybe even get to go on diplomatic trips. She was going to marry her sweetheart Miles who she’d had a crush on since they were twelve and have 2 girls and 3 boys. She’d donate to the temple and eat fancy food and live in the nice house with a purple mailbox down the road from her parents.
Then her Discovery happened, and she was found Barren. Everything she had planned for her future went up in a puff of smoke. She was pushed into more math classes and physical training. They cut off her library access. Miles still talked to her but he didn’t flirt with her anymore. He flirted with Macey Thompson now. The house down the road got bought by one of the upperclassmen.
She didn’t graduate school. In a bitter rage she beat up a classmate who had a later discovery and was found fertile. She was sentenced to a month in the mines. When she came back they didn’t send her back to school, they sent her to the factories instead. They stuck her in a communal home with 6 other Barren teens. She turned away her family when they tried to visit and burned their letters. After 4 months of working in the factories she started talking to an equally angry coworker, and together they joined an underground gang called the Massa Rattlesnakes.
